Organisational background

The Animal Welfare Foundation (AWF) is BVA’s charity and is directed by veterinary and animal welfare professionals. AWF supports the veterinary and animal welfare communities to collectively champion and improve the welfare of animals through independent research, education, and debate.

By hosting thematic and topical research calls AWF tackles difficult or non-populist topics to provide a deeper understanding of pertinent animal welfare issues.

AWF creates positive changes in attitude and knowledge amongst the veterinary profession by providing the only UK cross-species event dedicated entirely to the discussion of animal welfare. AWF is continually investing in future generations of the veterinary community through diverse student engagement activities.

Our Vision: Animals having a better life through improved animal welfare.

Our Mission: To use veterinary knowledge to improve the welfare of animals through science, education and debate.

  • Evidence-based

  • Responsive
  • We are a small, friendly and hard working team of three, which works closely with a dedicated Board of Trustees and with the British Veterinary Association. We are in the office 40% of the time and are based at BVA’s offices in London.
Working for AWF gives you the chance to get fully involved in the charity’s work and have a big impact on the charity’s success. This is extremely motivating and satisfying, as there is always something new to learn.

Someone who will bring enthusiasm, creativity, and innovation to the role. We need people with a good base of relevant skills, along with an openness to adapt their experience to the particular needs of the charity and the job roles within it.
