Organisational background
Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the United Kingdom, caring for over 14,000 animals each year across our network of 21 rehoming centres in the UK and one in Dublin.
We’ve been helping dogs for over 130 years. In that time, we’ve found forever homes for hundreds of thousands of our faithful friends, dramatically reduced numbers being put to sleep, and helped to all but eliminate strays from the UK’s streets.
We’ve also established universal microchipping in the UK, campaigned tirelessly on important issues such as puppy smuggling, and grown influence and impact on the international stage. But we know there’s so much more to do.
There are still millions of dogs – and people who love dogs – around the world who need support.
We dream big – Changing the world doesn’t happen by doing what we’ve always done – it takes energy, ambition and a fair amount of bravery to find a new and better way.
We’re on the ball – It’s about using your knowledge in relevant ways to make a difference – while being flexible and adaptable.
We make things happen – When we’re at our best, our positive, can-do attitude shines through to help us turn challenges into opportunities – and make things happen.
Organisational aims & mission
Our mission is to bring about the day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life, free from the threat of unnecessary destruction. We love dogs. It’s why we are working to become a global force for good in dog welfare, doing whatever we can to help dogs live the life to the full. To make it happen we recently launched our ambitious 10-year strategy.
Working alongside other Dogs Trust Departments and external stakeholders provides incredible opportunities for learning and development, such as contributing to photo shoots with the Communications team, and developing case management with the Behaviour team.
Our head office is based in Angel, North London. We regularly organise social activities, and luckily, we’re spoilt for choice with close proximity to lots of great venues such as those in the wonderful Exmouth Market and Islington. Since the pandemic, positions at Head Office are largely based from home and from the office a few days a week, depending on the needs of the team.
Our 21 rehoming centres span the length and breadth of the country, from Ballymena to Ilfracombe. Each of them has its own distinct personality, and the staff at each centre form a close-knit, family community of committed and passionate dog lovers. From Vet Nurses to Canine Carers, Rehomers to Rehab Trainers; they work together to bring new families together by helping our dogs find their forever homes. As the beating heart of the organisation, these roles are all based at the Centre full-time.
