Organisational background

MiNightVet is a dedicated out-of-hours veterinary emergency care provider which is owned and operated by CVS. There are currently over 15 MiNight Vet clinics and these allow us to offer out-of-hours career opportunities in most areas of the UK and Ireland.

MiNightVet Chester/Wirral is hosted by Chestergates Referral Hospital, making it a unique setup for a MiNightVet service. We serve a number of practices located across the Wirral and Chester region which are a mix of independents and CVS-owned, as well as other corporate practices.

Organisation aims & mission

Our purpose and vision espouse that of CVS as a whole: to provide the best possible care to animals by being the veterinary company people most want to work for. We want to attract the very best people that want to work towards this purpose and vision.

MiNightVet Chester/Wirral works hard to provide an exceptional level of veterinary care on a 24/7 basis.

Patient Care

We aim to provide an exceptional standard of care to our patients on a truly 24/7 basis. There is no ferrying patients backwards and forwards every day. We work with the clients and practices to provide the best treatment plan possible. We have dedicated MiNightVet staff on site 24 hours a day so that procedures and investigations can be continued past the point of emergency admission and stabilisation. Not only does this benefit the patient and owner but makes for more rewarding cases for the team.

Client Care

We focus hard on case continuity and client communication to try and offer the highest level of client care. Anyone that works out of hours knows the unique challenge that is posed by providing emergency care. We have formal handovers and an hour overlap for shift changes to ensure accurate transfer of information between teams.

Team Care

As well as team members looking out for each other day-to-day, we have Wellbeing Champions within the business who are trained as mental first aiders and are available to support team members whenever needed. We work hard to listen and respond to feedback from the team and hold an annual wellbeing survey which has previously resulted in the implementation of an outdoor staff area for summer lunches and more mundane but equally important things like ‘better microwave in the tea room’. We can’t promise to always get it right for everyone all the time but we certainly give it our best shot!

Team

Our current team members are awesome and are truly the glue that holds the place together!

Knowledge

We have a knowledgeable team with a number of vets and nurses holding or working towards ECC certification, which we encourage all staff to consider. Being based within the referral hospital also means a wealth of knowledge and experience amongst the wider team and a culture that nurtures knowledge development.

Facilities

Our referral hospital provides access to excellent facilities whether it be the super-speedy DR X-Ray system, literally towers of Braun drip pumps that don’t shout at you incessantly, enough multi-parameter monitors for the patients that need them and ventilators in theatre to name a few.

Variety

As a busy out-of-hours provider serving a large number of practices, you will truly see the full spectrum of cases from the classic GDVs and caesareans that everyone associates with out of hours to dyspnoeic pythons and complex medical cases, endless vomiting dogs and the puppy with the weepy eye!

Work/Life Balance

Everyone’s idea of work-life balance is different and we know it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. Our large out-of-hours team provides a range of work patterns and rotas to suit all sorts of versions of ‘balance’! We have a genuine approach to flexibility, offering part-time and job share roles as well as the more standard 7 on 14 off rota patterns.

Location

Chester is a wonderful spot with something to keep anyone happy! There are the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia and the Lake District short drives away or the bustling cities of Liverpool and Manchester equally close for those into more urban pursuits. Liverpool and Manchester Airports are within an hours drive. London is a 2 hour train journey away and motorway links are also excellent.

We are looking for team members that are enthusiastic and hard-working, with patient and client-care being their core priority.

We are eager to find people that are always looking to develop their skills and knowledge and work to a high clinical standard. We encourage participation in further education and a number of the team are working towards, or already hold an ECC Certificate.
